How NARC G1 Garlic will Fulfill Domestic Needs

Global NARC G1 Garlic market has reached over USD 19 Billion in 2021 Over the past 5 years, NARC G1 Garlic the global garlic market has expanded at a rate of about 4 percent per year. In 2020, China’s fresh and cold store garlic export volume reached 80% of world garlic production. India ranks second in terms of global production with 5% but Spain ranks second in terms of export value because Spanish garlic is larger in size and has a longer shelf life (1.5 years compared to 5 months of other varieties).

Pakistani G1 is superior to Spanish garlic due to its larger size, longer shelf life and nutritional value (higher in minerals such as iron, copper, zinc, manganese, potassium and phosphorus). So G1 has higher Export potential in Europe (Germany, France, Italy, Netherlands), Asia (Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh), Brazil, America (USA, Canada, Mexico), Russia, UK and Middle East.

Pakistan is not even among the top 10 producers of the world. It ranks 32nd in the world in terms of garlic production. 99.6% of garlic is imported from China and 0.23% from Iran while minor imports are made from Thailand and Afghanistan. Import of garlic has doubled in the last 1 year (102 million US dollars in 2020 and 52 million US dollars in 2019).

Therefore, if Pakistani farmers start growing and promoting G1 , we can not only stop importing it, but we can start exporting garlic to world markets at a high price like Spanish garlic.
